Debate 3: Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply

Avatar: Official debate Official debate

If the value of Maryland’s digital asset reserve rose sharply or fell during a recession, how might the resulting state budget decisions affect the state's aggregate demand, aggregate supply, total output, and prices in your district?

Hint: analyze the impacts on your assigned portfolio (Energy, Transportation, or Environment) first, then consider how they might affect your constituents based on their socioeconomic backgrounds. For example, which groups of people or which communities might get hurt or benefit immediately, and which ones might feel the impacts later or in the long run?

If you haven't, create an account to participate in these debates. When you create an account, do NOT put your real name. Use the name code that is assigned to you by the professor, i.e. Chair of the Assembly. Failing to use the assigned name codes will lead to a zero for your Debate grade.

To earn credit for this debate, complete BOTH parts:

1. Original post: 9-10 sentences

  • Answer the debate question from your assigned district’s perspective, using relevant economic concept(s). A post that discusses Maryland generally WITHOUT analysis of your assigned district will NOT receive full credit

  • Connect your analysis to your assigned portfolio: Environment, Energy, or Transportation.

2. Response to another delegate (either within or outside of your assigned district): 5-6 sentences

  • Acknowledge their point of view

  • Discuss respectfully and focus on economic reasoning. You can add evidence, present a counterargument, suggest an amendment, or ask a substantive question
